language key

In Library Tutorial Part 2 we use some 3 letter codes to denote which language the exercise is made for. The examples given are eng for English and swe for Swedish. We follow the ISO 639-3 international standard for language codes. The reason for this is that this standard has a 3 letter code for almost every known language. That should be enough for our needs!

If you are making exercises in different languages we recommend that you use this standard to organise your work.

A second important use for these language codes is for the making of the CAT type exercises “Letterclick” and “Wordgrid”.

In order to make these exercises we need to tell OLEM which special characters to add to the exercise. If you have a language not represented in the list below, please contact us and we will endevour to add it to the list (Latin alphabet languages only at present).

We have presently set up the CAT exercise maker to accept the following language codes:

We show the special characters for the languages we have already installed in the system. Even if your language is not yet in the list, maybe one of these installed languages uses the same special characters and you can use that one temporarily.
